The principle reason why I chose to study in this area is because I am convinced that it is excellent preparation for a career in Real Estate.

Your Program in Real Estate Finance at XXXX University is my first choice for graduate study for a variety of reasons, mostly the sheer excellence of your program. In recent years, there has been an increasing demand in Hong Kong and China for real estate professionals with a background in finance. Valuation has amplified beyond property valuation to business valuation. With the cutting-edge training that I would acquire as a Master’s Student in Real Estate Finance at XXXX, I feel strongly that I will be able to make my maximum, sustainable contribution to global society. My principle focus is on China’s Greater Bay Area, Macau as well as Hong Kong along with the mainland cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Dongguan, Huizhou, Jiangmen, and Zhoqing – all forming an integrated economic and business commonwealth and hub for international commerce.

Increasingly in Hong Kong, property transactions are taking place as part of company stock exchanges, rather than simple property transfers. Since 2008, when property prices skyrocketed in Hong Kong, every year, experts believed that the value of property in general would fall that year, and it still has not happened. I am keenly interested in further study into prospects and likelihoods for Hong Kong real estate prices to hit a threshold. Companies across different sectors are beginning to put more emphasis on real estate during their IPO or M&A processes; and beginning to realize that real estate strategy plays a vital role in the generation of profits. Property prices, especially for residential properties, are among the highest in the world in Hong Kong and the number of transactions has been falling, suggesting that prices are simply out of reach for most potential investors.

My long-term goal is to become a major player in China’s Greater Bay Area in the field of Real Estate Finance. I plan to devote my professional life to the cultivation of my niche in the area of Real Estate Finance at the service of the Greater Bay Area. While traditional real estate consultancy firms provide a wide range of services, I plan to seek special excellence in the area of finance through exclusive service to this aspect of the real estate industry. I see great potential for this fundamental service, especially with respect to the Greater Bay Area.

My undergraduate studies in Surveying have allowed be to gain deep insight into the real estate industry and I had a chance to develop my skills in a variety of real-estate-related areas in addition to property valuation. My thesis for my Bachelor’s Degree, for example, focused on the relationship between property price and urban renewal projects. I feel strongly that my academic and professional training so far will enable me to hit the ground running and excel in Real Estate Finance at Cambridge. With property valuation becoming more business orientated locally and nationally, I believe that having extra professional knowledge on real estate finance will benefit me throughout my career as a real estate professional.

I have worked for XXXX, one of Hong Kong’s largest real estate firms, as a summer intern in 2015, gaining invaluable experience in performing property valuations for Mainland Chinese clients such as Evergrande, one of the biggest property developers in China. I have also worked in the public sector as a summer intern in 2016 for Hong Kong’s Rating and Valuation Department. There, I learned a great deal about how the rating system works in Hong Kong and the differences in valuation between public and private sectors.

During my first year of undergraduate studies, I started up the Esports Society at my university alongside several friends. Collecting over 1800 signatures (10% of the students) from students in my university for the formation of the society greatly enhanced my interpersonal skills. Leading the society in hosting multiple tournaments and setting up multiple meetings within and outside of the society allowed me to become a proficient leader. I have great passion in taking a leadership role and I believe that Real Estate Finance at the University of XXXX can help to accelerate my plans still further for the foreseeable future.

I have served as a volunteer with the Urban Renewal Authority, helping to develop and implement our Community Service Partnership Scheme (2015/16). I found great joy in this position helping to improve the living quality of many families in need in Hong Kong. 2017 was my finest year so far as a student, since I was most honored and pleased to serve as Research Assistant at my University, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

I thank you for considering my application to Real Estate Finance at XXXX University.

Born and raised in China and coming to the USA at the age of 19 to attend university, I have now been here for 3 years. Throughout the course of my education, I have increasingly fallen in love with the field of Statistics and it is in this area that I hope very much to earn my Master’s Degree at the University of XXXX, where I am currently finishing my undergraduate studies. I feel strongly that I would be able to best excel at UX since I already have an establish support base and network here and I love UX very much. I have chosen to give my professional life to the advancement of Statistics because I see it as ultimately a humanitarian enterprise; since the more we are able to master statistics, harnessing its power for the purposes of technological advancement, the more our world will be able to prosper and develop in peach and harmony. The greatest possible contribution I can make, as I see it, is to use statistics ultimately to help ordinary people.

While serving for months as a volunteer teacher in both China and Thailand, I came to a much fuller realization of how so many people are much less fortunate than I am. These teaching experiences left me highly motivated to give my all to the advancement of the cause of education, which I see as the best solution to the problem of inequalities. If given an opportunity to complete your especially distinguished Master’s Degree Program in Statistics at UX, I will be able to realize my central professional goal of the fullest possible engagement with research in the area of big data, putting my skills to use on behalf of the non-profit, humanitarian organizations. I am also especially passionate about statistical applications in the social sciences and with respect to social and humanitarian issues. It is because of these interests that my foremost intellectual role model at the University of Michigan is Professor XXXX, who uses statistical applications to analyze how to motivate more people to donate money to relief efforts for the poor. Most specifically, I hope to study in-depth the statistical applications that are being designed for the advancement of public health in developing countries.

I have contributed to several research projects as an undergraduate and currently I am heavily engaged in the study of deep learning mindset, analyzing data using Python. I spent two years studying Management and Economics and this coming May of 2018 I will graduate from UX as a triple major in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics. During my junior year, I realized the limitation of simple machine learning algorithms and became interested in the concept of deep learning and neural networks, under the guidance of professor Ji Zhu, learning to classify data sets to detect picture patterns. Analyzing the real estate market in the US since the beginning of 2016, I used random forest imputation to deal with huge amounts of missing data and fit generalized linear models to test for association between sale prices and house features. I used deep learning mindset to predict the log error of Zestimate (a widely used estimated market value for an individual home) and the actual sale price. I also spent countless hours immersed in the Chinese stock market crisis of 2015, contributing to an analysis of stock data from ETF 50, and clustering on time series data to pinpoint abnormal company behaviors during the crisis. This study has been submitted to the Journal of Behavioral Finance and I am listed as one of the co-authors.

I have experience in R, SQL, Python, MatLab and Stata. In addition, I am familiar with C, C++ and Mathematica. I am also currently learning SAS. My previous research compels me to continue towards my goal of becoming a professional research investigator. Thank you for considering my application to Statistics at the University of XXXX.

This is where I think I could make my maximum contribution to my society, India, since I see construction projects as of especially critical importance to economic development in my country.

This is especially true with respect to our need for investment in infrastructure, particularly roads and bridges. Agriculture is still the principal occupation in India and the way that a majority of Indians continue to support their families. I am especially concerned with the fact that it is very difficult for farmers in remote areas of the country to sell their crops because of the great difficulties involved in getting those crops to market. These concerns led me to choose Civil Engineering for my undergraduate studies and I graduated from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering in July of 2016.

My central professional dream, therefore, is to attain a cutting-edge education in Construction Management so that I will be able to help the most abandoned and ignored sectors of our economy in India to prosper in the future as a result of the development of new irrigation systems, roads, and bridges etc. I feel strongly that these kinds of investments in infrastructure would help make the Indian economy more competitive on a global level.

I hope very much to be accepted to your particularly distinguished Master’s Degree Program in Construction Management at Deakin University in Australia. Earning the MSc at Deakin would represent the fulfillment of my longstanding dream of receiving a top-notch, First World education in my field at one of the finest universities in the world. There are many reasons why I have my heart set on Deakin University, especially the fact that it is the finest program of its kind in the world for studying digital technology and modeling as applied to architecture and construction management. I look forward to an intense immersion experience for two full years learning everything that I can about all aspects of Construction Management. I appreciate how the program at Deakin is so thoroughgoing and multi-disciplinary; exploring a wide range of topics all interrelated with construction management.

I also appreciate very much how your program at Deakin is geared to real-world challenges in building construction and a search for creative solutions to those challenges. I take pride in both my analytical capabilities and my computer skills and I keenly look forward to exercising these abilities to the fullest extent as a graduate student at Deakin. Your program is the perfect place for me to develop my technical knowledge and skill-set and learn how to manage the complex problems that arise in construction today. I also see your program at Deakin as unparalleled insofar as you provide students with professional on-site opportunities. This is what I seek most of all in a Master’s Program, direct industrial exposure and experience.

I am most excited about the prospect of learning from the masters at Deakin University: skills, tips, and procedures for successful construction management, working independently and in teams. I look forward to getting increasing on-site exposure in the construction field as a result of completing my Masters at Deakin. I have already completed my first internship; and have been working intensively for some time on two research projects. I never give up, I just get up and try again until I succeed, like a spider building a web. I want very much now at 22 years old to leave my family and friends, as well as my country, and go off to find myself and my place in the world of construction management. I want to face up to all of my difficulties and challenges entirely on my own, leaning on no one.

I presented a technical paper on ground water recharge techniques for smart cities for the National Conference on “SMART CITIES –CONCEPT FOR INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS” at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering. I also presented a paper titled Experimental Study of a Gate Valve for Improvement in its Hydraulic performance at the 1st International conference on “Energy, Environment and Engineering” (ICEE-2016) organized by the Coimbatore Institute of Technology. Finally, I have completed several courses at the Center of Innovation and Leadership, including personal effectiveness and communication skills for business and working in teams.

I have been planning to apply to graduate school in Australia for some time, reading and studying, learning about Australia and the opportunities that exist in construction in particular. After graduating with my Master’s Degree from Deakin University, I hope to begin working as an engineer on a construction site, on my way to a management position within a few years. Ultimately, I look forward to being in charge of the construction site.

I thank you for your consideration of my application to Construction Management at Deakin University.

I have loved art and calligraphy since as long as I have been able to hold a brush. I have won several prizes in China for art and calligraphy and passed the prestigious Level 7 Painting Certificate of the Shanghai Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Association. I love the creative process and have applied my artistic and marketing skills and experience in producing eye-pleasing and effective designs for both marketing products and web pages. I am greatly attracted to the vast creative potential that the web provides and seek to fuse traditional art forms with the very latest technological innovations. I regard myself as a ‘natural’ in the field who now seeks to acquire the additional skills and knowledge to make a significant contribution especially in the area of ‘new media’ which is opening up thrilling new possibilities for almost every kind of business and organization.

My bachelor degree in Graphic Design and Art History provided me with an excellent grounding for a career in this field. The study and practice of ‘bringing ideas to life’ through GD was, in itself, fascinating but the fact that I was surrounded by highly creative people who shared my enthusiasm made the experience truly life-changing. This was supplemented by an appreciation, in the study of Art History, of the fact that there have always been those who seek to present thoughts, information and opinion through appealing and compelling composition and have found many means of doing so over several millennia.

My artistic and design education has been supplemented by technical knowledge and skills acquired over several years spent as an intern, employee and contractor in the working world of design/web design. I am aware that ‘artists’ can sometimes struggle in the demanding and profit oriented ‘real world’. However I have a well-developed practical ‘side’ and I have thrived in the ‘rough and tumble’ of the collaborative and team based projects in which I have often been involved. I consider the ‘art’ of effective communication is as vital to a designer as his technical skills and I am by nature as ready to listen as I am to speak though always ready to make my own ‘case’ to others. I have found this characteristic to be very helpful in achieving early agreement with colleagues and clients. The technical knowledge and skills acquired during my bachelor degree studies and broadened them considerably by the application of a number of additional platforms.

I have particularly enjoyed working in the exciting environment of the ‘start up’ in which the creative impulse can be allowed maximum rein. In one case, our team designed an animated app mock up prior to the launching of the product to gauge the interest of potential backers. This approach saved much time and expense in judging whether or not to proceed and we were ultimately successful both in raising finance and marketing the product. The use of UI/UX design assisted in attracting traffic and product purchase. The whole exercise was enormously satisfying and taught me much.

I am excited to be in a field where change is so rapid and openness to innovation and adaptability are vital to success. I enjoy learning and applying new techniques and platforms and understand that this process of change and improvement will continue at an increasing rate over time.

To summarize, I am an accomplished artist with an excellent and relevant academic and professional background that will enable me to excel in the program and in a web design career beyond. I can assure the reader of highly enthusiastic and diligent participation in the program, I look forward to sharing the fruits of my own knowledge and skills for the benefit of my fellow students and receiving the benefit of their own.

Thank you for considering my application to one of the finest Graphic Design Master’s Program in the world at XXXX University.

I hope to be selected to your competitive PHD Program in Health Sciences Informatics at XXXX University on the basis of my professional experience and the fact that I hold dual Master’s Degrees that are closely related to this field. This will enable me to excel and distinguish myself in your program.

I plan to fully devote my life to doing everything that I can to contribute to the reinvention of the US healthcare system, making health care increasingly safe, effective, affordable, and accessible in America. I finished my first Master’s Degree in Regulatory Science and Health Safety in 2013 and then my MS in Biotechnology in 2015. I have worked on the development of medical devices as a research intern at the Food and Drug Administration and I have also been running a free weight loss class for my local community for the past several months and enjoy it immensely.

I have very diversified experience in research, regulation and business - all medical related. This includes two years of basic science research experience in the area of brain cancer and I have published one paper entitled "Clinical Cancer Research" as a second author; I have two years of working experience as a FDA regulatory specialist for a software company, making sure that the software serves its purpose of helping drug/biotech companies to stay in compliance with FDA regulations, including the beta testing of several revised versions of the software. I also own my own medical imaging company, a mobile ultrasound company that scans patients in doctor's offices.

I very much appreciate the interdisciplinary character of your Health Science Informatics PHD Program at XXXX and I feel strongly that I am a good fit with your program given my skill sets, experience, and research interests for the future. I hope to teach in the area of Health Science Informatics in the future and this is why I very much hope to be accepted by one of the finest programs in the country. I hope to combine teaching and research for many decades to come, at the same time that I continue to develop my own technology company.

I have been relentlessly following major issues at the intersection of Biotechnology, Medical Informatics, and Preventive Medicine for the past 5 years. During my last semester as a graduate student I was coming up with several creative ideas that were supported by my professors and I again very much look forward to a full time immersion in the academic world so that I can bring some of my creative ideas to professional fruition. One project that I am working on is a mobile app to holistically integrate the functions of consumer informatics, telemedicine, eHealth/mHealth, and disease prevention & management through health information exchange and interactive patient education, all of which are subjects covered by your curriculum. I am also making progress with an interactive program that can be implemented into organizations or communities at a very low cost but could make significant contributions to education and health literacy for the general public, at the same time that it helps to improve communication between care providers. I especially look forward to learning as much as I can about Ehealth and human computer interaction at XXXX. I thank you for considering my application to your program.

XXXX University’s PHD Program in Economics is my first choice for graduate school for a variety of reasons foremost of which is the vast opportunity to explore issues in Policy Analysis as an integral feature of your curriculum coupled to the vast diversity of cutting-edge interests represented by your outstanding faculty. I feel strongly that I am a good fit with XXXX because behavioral economics and its impact on policy effectiveness and policy making stand at the center of my intellectual work.

I seek a thoroughgoing immersion in the study of behavior that is characteristic of the financial world and an opportunity to engage in intensive, flexible, interdisciplinary research geared towards preparing me to make my maximum contribution as a Finance professional and someday a teacher in the area of economics and, more specifically, finance. I very much appreciate the way that XXXX has PHD advisor committees consisting of 3-4 advisors; combined with XXXX's "open campus," where students can take classes in their special area of interest and related areas, doing as much interdisciplinary work as they like for a full five years. I appreciate the plethora of resources that XXXX and the surrounding area have to offer. It is my dream school.

I especially look forward to studying under Professor XXXX in the area of behavioral economics and Professor XXXX in public economics and development. I am especially enamored with the work of the latter on inequalities in Asia. I hope to engage myself in the future in research dealing with economic inequalities with respect to gender issues, why women receive a much smaller share of the pie than men and how this might be remedied over time in sustainable ways.

I am proud of the fact that I spent one year in college producing a stage play that promoted traditional Chinese culture and literature. Working as a team, we raised about USD$15K, performing the play to the community for free. This year, 2016, I completed an internship with the United Nations Procurement Section, assisting with procurement strategy and policy development and procurement projects, as well as helping to allocate resources efficiently and maximize the value received. I especially appreciated the opportunity to learn a great deal about the complex ways that the UN cares about more than the price and quality of a product, also taking into consideration such things as whether or not the vendor is a fair trader and respects women’s rights.

While completing my internship at the UN, I volunteered for the Commission for the Status of Women (CSW) 2016 for the United Nations, serving at the registration office helping approximately 4000 participants to register for access. I also volunteered to organize a lecture on sustainable development at the CSW; as one of the volunteers who put in the most hours, I learned a great deal. Even more recently I volunteered to help out with NYU's Development Research Institute Annual Conference focused on the Global Migration Crisis.

I want to learn how to combine behavioral economics, game theory, and experimental economics in the study of how people make decisions and how even small tweaks in policy can generate huge social benefits, especially when the population is very large as is the case in my native China. I hope to make special contributions to the emerging field of behavioral economics with respect to China, in particular, since it is the economy that I understand at the most in-depth level, and also the one with which I am most concerned, as a Chinese woman, a human being, and a planetary citizen.

I look forward to becoming an expert in decision-making and the complex ways in which it is related to policy development and public interest. My long term objective is to become a professor and devote my life to research. I audited a PHD level Experimental Economics class for one semester, went to the Adam Smith reading group, and attended public lectures in several areas such as neuro-economics. In my Game Theory class in college we were asked to do a research project using game theory and this provided me with the opportunity to build a game theory model on Shill Bidding (a seller placing fake bids in auctions to drive up the price) in English auction, which involved complex mathematical challenges and it was my first time to build an economic model. I spent a lot of extra time working on it under the supervision of the TA, and our group earned an A+ for the project. I continued to do individual research on this subject with my professor serving as my advisor and this helped me to become selected for an Undergraduate Research Scholarship.

In my Masters Program we did a dissertation in the last semester and our group engaged in rigorous data analysis concerning Total Factor Productivity (TFP) growth in the US and this graduate group was also at the top of our class. In my Applied Linguistic class I earned an A+ on the research project. Even in my English writing class, when writing a paper about the library, discussing its current functions in providing a reading experience, I went out of my way to interview 10 students concerning their reasons for going or not going to the library, and I interviewed the head of our library at our university on why they put certain things in the library, why they changed the arrangements in the library over time, etc. The head of the library was impressed with my questions and she even kindly wrote an email to my professor. My professor was very surprised and thanked me for going above and beyond the requirements of this project

A native speaker of Chinese Mandarin and fluent in English, I also speak intermediate level Korean and I can also read and write Korean. I like drawing, oil painting, and also the traditional Chinese painting. I played tennis before 8th grade, and earned 3rd place in a competition in Beijing. I was also on my high school’s rowing team and we earned the 3rd place among Beijing high schools. Finally, I also enjoy hiking and horseback riding. I’ve traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Maldives, and Japan; this will help me to contribute to your wonderful celebration of diversity at XXXX.

I thank you for considering my application to your PHD Program in Economics.

I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program as a young woman from Africa who was born and raised in Nigeria and could not be more passionate about the Earth Sciences. Now a permanent resident of the USA, last year, 2015, thanks to being awarded a Merck Engineering Scholarship, I was able to complete my undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at XXXX in New Jersey - graduating with a GPA of 3.97.

Even when I am not studying or working, I spend much of my free time imagining a world with more efficient ways of adsorbing impurities from hydrocarbon and proactive ways to better refine crude oil. This is because my ultimate goal in life is to make the world a better place, especially for future generations, by making important contributions to the design of increasingly efficient energy systems and sustainable technologies.

Houston is my first choice because it is not only home to incredible human and cultural diversity but most of all because it is such an important international center for the energy industry. NASA and the Planetary Institute also draw earth and space scientists that I hope to learn from. XXXX University is my first choice for graduate study for many reasons including the fact that you draw prominent earth scientists to your university and support them for extended research visits. I appreciate the way that your curriculum is highly interdisciplinary and customized to individual interests and strengths as this will enable me to focus much of my research on the area that I know best and in which I hope to make my greatest contribution to our field in the future: the many complex environmental challenges facing Nigeria in particular. The areas that I know best so far and seek to advance are Petrology, Sedimentology, high and low temperature Geochemistry, Environmental Geochemistry, and Seismology. Thus, I have special appreciation for the vast diversity of tools and research facilities that are available at XXXX.

Since May of 2015, I have been fulfilling an Effective Teacher Fellowship ACP at HISD, Houston, Texas, teaching Mathematics 7-12. Thus, I am already well established in the Houston area and have been making most valuable contacts and building local networks for some time now. Studying at Rice would enable me to fulfill my central dream of earning a professional degree at one of the world’s best Earth Science programs.

My chemical engineering undergraduate degree exposed me to the basics of chemical plant design and I now see earning an advanced degree in Earth Sciences as the perfect direction in which to make professional advancement; and acquire cutting-edge research silks while I master state-of-the-art technology; so as to make the Earth a better, more sustainable place to live.

My favorite subjects in high school were science and mathematics, the more I came to understand, the more I loved both areas. I have always been very optimistic about learning with an insatiable thirst for research. For me, the will power of innovation is to question every assumption, base one’s belief only on solid evidence, and most of all do groundbreaking research. I chose to begin in chemical engineering because of its foundational relevance for the technological needs of our global economy.

I began my undergraduate study at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, where I studied various courses like heat transfer, fluid mechanics, mass transfer, transport phenomena, process dynamics, chemical reaction engineering, and energy economics management, introducing me to various theoretical concepts and methods which are widely used in chemical, oil and gas and pharmaceutical industries. I later transferred and completed my undergraduate degree at XXXX where I was also able to gain real world experience. My interest in bioengineering was especially ignited when I supported vaccine manufacturing operations at Merck & Co pharmaceuticals. During my co-op term at Infineum USA L.P. I analyzed sludge samples from the VH-Engine test to aid in developing motor oils with better deposit control. I also worked with data from the Mack T-13 Engine test to determine optimum oil formulations for heavy duty engines and involved in a mix of theoretical and experimental research geared towards the design of better dispersant molecules for use in engine motor oils.

My exposure to industry thus far has made me highly motivated and committed to developing sustainable solutions to real world chemical engineering problems. I know a lot about process systems modeling and optimization, bioengineering, efficient supply chain and logistics systems’ emission control in heavy duty engines, and optimizing the flow behavior of polymer solutions.

I am quite confident that if selected for your competitive program that I would excel and distinguish myself as a result of my great tenacity that defies the odds in coursework, analysis, teamwork, interpersonal communications and the general aptitudes that contribute to ultimate success in industrial engineering. I am especially inspired by the fact that the geosciences have the lowest level of diversity of all the STEM fields at all levels of higher education; with only a small handful of black professors. Thus, I am struck by the idea that as an African woman I would be a positive role model for attracting students of the future to study in the Earth Sciences in an inclusive fashion; especially black students, girls as well as boys. Someday, I would like to have my labor recognized as a tenure track faculty member in the Earth Sciences. Blacks make up less than 1% of the total number of students that have earned PHDs in the Geosciences in the USA; there is much room for improvement.

I would like to specialize in petrology. I have had exposure to a number of analytical techniques such as UV-VIS Spectroscopy, TAN evolution, real time FTIR, GC-MS and NMR, the Laser Diffraction Particle Size analyzer, operation of Datacon And Wirebond machines used in the manufacture of low pressure sensors, wire ignition experiments and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Highly experienced at data analysis, I also know a lot about mathematical modeling.

I thank you for considering my application to Earth Sciences at XXXX.

I am a Latino real estate professional who has been working in the industry since my graduation from college with dual degrees in Management and International Business in 2001. Since then I have been devoting myself almost exclusively to real estate development, both in Miami and Mexico City. Over the course of these past 15 years, I have been exposed to a broad variety of challenges in the Real Estate Development Industry, almost all of which I have met with my utmost strength and dedication, generally overcoming the obstacle. Where I have failed, I have learned a great deal from my mistakes.

While my mother is originally from Cuba, my father was born in the US to a Cuban father and a Puerto Rican mother. Both of my parents, however, fell in love with Mexico City early on and it has been our second home for decades. Attending school for years growing up in Mexico helped me to develop an identity of being Latino that incorporates several ethnic varieties. I have long dedicated myself to building upon each one. I now see both Miami and Mexico City as my permanent homes and I have supplemented my experiences at home by travel to Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize, Bahamas, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Maldives, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and Cambodia.

I hold three current professional positions serving as a Managing Partner with ATMA Real Estate Network, the CEO of Inverproperties LLC - both organizations dedicated to multifamily units; I am also a partner in and serve as the General Manager of Grupo Inverproperties S.A. de C.V. where I develop new shopping center models for Mexico.

XXXX University’s Masters in Real Estate Online is my first choice for graduate study because of the in-depth character of your curriculum. I see it as the flagship program in our industry and I particularly look forward to learning everything that I can about asset classes, especially multifamily and industrial, since I'm currently working on several projects wherein these components are particularly critical. I could not be more excited about my current engagement with the development of shopping centers for smaller communities in Mexico. I am especially pleased with a model that I have created for a movie-theatre-anchored shopping center for a city of between 70 to 150 thousand people. In Mexico, many communities of this size have no movie theatre at all; some have no shopping center, with people having to drive at least an hour away to enjoy these conveniences.

Shopping centers have become areas for families to spend the day in Mexico, with kids hanging out in a safe place where there is a certain level of security monitoring. I like to think of the shopping centers that we are developing for Mexico as sound models for other parts of the Developing World, providing centers of social gravity that serve vital community needs and promote economic growth in healthy ways that contribute to the long term sustainability of communities. Quite simply, I want to earn my Master’s in Real Estate at XXXX because I want to become better at what I do, make the soundest investments possible, constantly staying abreast of cutting edge developments in my field and harnessing the creative energy of my professional colleagues in my own endeavors. I count myself fortunate to have my own development company and being my own boss.

A few years after graduating college, I had decided to study towards an MBA and was preparing to take an entrance exam in this area when I was approached by one of the largest real estate developers in Mexico and was invited to join the Retail Development Team. Looking back, I am glad that I dropped those plans for the MBA and that I have waited until many years later for graduate school, bringing with me the wisdom and experience that I have no acquired. This offer that drew me into the real estate world turned out to be an ideal opportunity. The company had just partnered with 2 giants in the industry, Kimco and GE Capital, and I also gained experience working with Reits in Miami in the area of Capital Markets.

I look forward to decades to come as a real estate development professional working with increasingly diverse types of projects not only retail or residential but also office, industrial, etc. I am now at the right place in my life to work to excel in an online Masters program, working at my own pace towards the fulfillment of my dreams. Learning from XXXX’s exceptional professors and benefitting from their vast knowledge and experience will enable me to become a stronger and more prescient industry leader in Mexico and the US with an inherently bi-national perspective on international business. Real Estate is my passion, what I do every day, and what I want to continue to do for the rest of my life.

Being a real estate leader for me is all about service to the community which is the center of my world. I'm involved in supporting various charities in my local community, mostly working through municipal governments, programs for children, toy drives, food drives. etc. This aspect of success is also central to my life and professional identity.

I thank you for considering my application to XXXX.

My sport, women’s wrestling, is new and we have momentum, increasing ten-fold in as many years. As a teacher and a coach, I seek to harness this energy towards the design of sports programs specifically for children with Autism. My investment in women’s wrestling pales in comparison to my investment in issues related to Autism-spectrum because 2 of my 3 children are on that spectrum. This is why I made a career change from literature to education and why I feel that I have something special to contribute to the Special Education Doctoral Program at XXXX University where I am currently earning my Master’s Degree. For several years now, I have enjoyed my own Autism laboratory at home, complete with two subjects and my only non-Autistic child serving as the control group. This will continue to help me to excel as a researcher and a teacher.

The most challenging and also the most exciting aspect of my M.Ed. Program at XXXX has been the applied behavioral analysis component. I am currently conducting research in my English classroom based on the concept of ‘direct instruction’, measuring student progress as a result of ‘precision teaching’. I am new at this and I feel very strongly that I want to continue with this avenue of research on a doctoral level; in fact, for the balance of my professional life. Thus, I am gearing up in my mind and heart for doctoral studies and I hope to be accepted to your program at Penn State because I feel so comfortable here; well established with schools, professional contacts, etc. I am working on a proposal to submit for a poster session at the National Autism Conference that XXXXe hosts in August. XXXX is the ideal location for me to continue to learn how to best adapt the way that I teach to the unique needs of my students. I go to IEP meetings now armed with data that can be of assistance to parents as well as teachers.

I have 3 children. My daughter Elizabeth is 11 and she has Asperger Syndrome. Nevertheless, she is also gifted; and she does really well academically without much intervention. My second child, my son James, is "high-functioning Autistic" although I normally define it as "he has autism." My third child, Sammy, is "normal," whatever that means. As little Sammy the infant macho man has grown, I have paused to reflect on the extent to which ‘aggression’ can be positive, aiding in the development of something that was clearly missing with my older son who came before, perhaps my daughter as well. Wrestling can be good for you and I have tussled with Sammy since the day he was born.

I believe I am a good fit with the culture and directions of your program at XXXX. I also feel strongly that I have something important of great value to contribute to the academic community and the teaching profession with respect to the study of antecedent interventions in the secondary classroom, as a way to reduce problem behavior. We have a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) group at my school and I serve as a Tier 2/Tier 3 coordinator. I would like to design simple, effective strategies that teachers can use to increase motivation and decrease challenging behaviors. This is why I have been especially inspired by the research of XXXX Professors XXXX and XXXX. I want to earn the doctorate so that I become much better at what I do: developing programs for progress monitoring and curriculum development at the high school level. I could not be more inspired, in particular, by the support of Dr. XXXX who currently serves as my Adviser. She has encouraged me to apply to your program. Finally, XXXX is currently ranked #1 in wrestling.

I thank you for your consideration of my application.

XXXX University’s cutting-edge Master’s Program in Real Estate Development is the best springboard to put me where I want to be. While I am already a successful real estate broker and developer in Los Angeles, I want much more. Your program at XXXX will be the foundation upon which I rise to the cutting edge of real estate development in one of the world’s most competitive markets. Georgetown is my first choice because I see your program as the most rigorous and thoroughgoing among available online programs.

Now 39 and a well established real estate professional, I am an Indian man who has lived in Los Angeles since my family came to America when I was 10 years old. LA has thus been central to my identity formation and this is reflected in the fact that I am an amateur magician in my spare time and a member of the Academy of Magical Arts based in Hollywood’s Magic Castle. The magic of Los Angeles which occupies the vast majority of my energy, however, is its dynamic real estate market. Wealth is not the principal end towards which I strive; rather, I see personal victory through professional growth. No magic will be involved in earning my Masters Degree through XXXX, however, just a lot of hard work.

I have been in real estate since 1999 and the brokerage/construction industry since 2008. I have successfully raised capital for a large number of projects and I am currently expanding into larger multifamily and commercial office developments. I have a solid foundation in accounting and finance which has enabled me to raise capital for my projects. I am skilled at the development of financial models that are project specific and that in line with each investor terms. Every investor is different and requires some out of the box thinking at which I excel.

I earned my MS in Marketing Management from XXXX in 2006. While I did not distinguish myself as an undergraduate student, I take pride in how very hard I have worked since I graduated, building my career in real estate. In addition to being a licensed broker, I am also in the process of finalizing my contractor’s license. I manage a number of ground-up developments in addition to operating my own brokerage. I look forward to a professional lifetime of devotion to real estate that lies ahead of me, developing and constructing value-added assets that benefit the community as a whole, as well as private individuals. Within a few years, I hope to be managing a boutique real estate development fund, and increasingly becoming recognized among Real Estate professionals in Los Angeles.

I hope to achieve a better understanding of commercial real estate development and this includes but is not limited to finance mechanisms, structured financing, and fund management. I also hope to enhance my understanding of the legal framework and deal flow from the accounting prospective, becoming a master at the attraction of large institutional investors and managing constant and incremental commercial development. Your program at XXXX is focused on exactly what I want to do.

Most agents I talk to understand many of the general challenges facing the market but lack an adequate knowledge base in the areas of lending and construction in particular. I hope to contribute to filling this void and making information more accessible to buyers, sellers, and agents alike in these areas in particular. While these services are frequently available for high-net-worth investors in the development industry, they are also increasingly needed by brokers in order to stay competitive. In the future, I hope to offer a broad spectrum of services that encompass all stages of the process from development through construction and sales. I want to design and develop state-of-the-art, one stop shops for buyers, sellers, and investors alike; forming strategic partnerships with architects, engineers and our field service team. My team already has decades of cumulative experience in ‘fix n flips’, ground up construction in residential development, and institutional asset management. With extensive knowledge and experience, our time frame for assessment is quite short and our due-diligence in-house is of the highest order.

I am currently making final preparations to begin using a Matterport camera for 3d walk-in-tours and built-in-offer platforms that will allow me to provide a very unique marketing package. Sellers will be impressed by our ability to reduce time on market as well as our dependence on open houses. Buyers will enjoy walking through homes on the market and comparing floor plans without ever leaving the comfort of their own home, even making offers online. While I have competitors who are also developing this technology, I am confident that the way that I am putting it all together will result in a customer experience that is unsurpassed in LA.

I thank you for considering my application to XXXX.

XXXX University’s MS in Real Estate Program is my first choice for graduate school for a variety of reasons. Most of all, I appreciate the way that you emphasize the importance of contributing to the inclusive and sustainable development of communities as well as the need for corporate and social responsibility. My long term goal is not to become as rich as possible; rather, I see real estate development as a social and potentially even a humanitarian service; and I hope to someday become a real estate developer not only in my native New York but also in the land in which I was born and raised, Haiti – farther down the road in my career.

I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program at XXU as someone who is fully multicultural, since I was raised in Haiti and did not immigrate to America to reunite with my family here until I finished high school. A little more than 6 years ago, watching the scenes of suffering and destruction caused by the earthquake in Haiti, caused me to bond again in my heart with the land where I grew up and this tragedy enhanced my passion to help my people at least at some point in my career - when I have more experience, time, and freedom. XXU has a very dynamic Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies as well as a Haitian-American student union. I will thus feel much at home at XXU, bonding with the Haitian and other Caribbean communities.

Learning the cutting-edge of real estate development will empower me for decades to come, constantly enhancing my real estate management and development skills working in the world’s most dynamic markets. I hope to acquire the cutting edge creativity that will enable and inspire me to pass over hurdles along the way working in competitive and challenging scenarios. Real Estate is a career change for me since my area has up until now has been IT. I want very much to put the IT to work in the real estate industry and I will probably be called the IT guy in the future at any firm where I might work. I hope to start my own brokerage at some point.

I hope to make my professional mark making affordable housing more “affordable” for low income families in New York and surrounding areas. I feel strongly that a lot of families have problems because they work to much with too little time to devote to family life, and many if not most young parents do this in order to pay the exorbitant rent prices of New York City. Harlem is my home and I have a special interest in what I call black real estate.

My interest in real estate really took off in college as a result of working as a resident assistant (RA). I quickly noticed how that by their junior or senior year students were looking to move off campus and by the time I graduated I had made my first investment in off-campus rental property, renovating much of it myself while I lived in the basement and rented the upstairs floors college students. Two years later, in 2007, I bought another home in foreclosure in the same neighborhood to rent out. Discouraged by the crash of 2008, I just focused from that time forward on everything IT. Last year I earned my real estate broker’s license and I’m currently attending a Real Estate Associate Program in NYC called REAP – which will end on May 5th. Earning my Masters at XXU in Real Estate will provide my with the foundation for a long and highly fulfilling lifetime in real estate development, a professional with a social purpose and someone who will never forget from whence he came.

I thank you for considering my application.

Currently a student at the University of XXXX, I will be graduating this coming May, 2016 with 2 degrees, in Mathematics as well as Landscape Architecture. I have taken Calculus III, Abstract Linear Algebra, Elementary Real Analysis, Intro to Computer Science, and Numerical Methods, all prerequisites for your distinguished Master's Degree Program in Statistics at the University of California XXXX, my first choice for graduate school.

UC XXXX is the most idyllic environment that I have ever visited, both academically and with respect to community and the natural environment. I find the landscape most inspiring. I feel strongly that I learned an enormous amount of valuable, very practical things as a result of earning an undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture in addition to Mathematics, about industry, supply chain, finance and management, as well as technology, engineering, and business.

I learned throughout the course of my studies, however, that I did not want to devote the rest of my professional life to landscape architecture. Rather, I seek to continue my education at the graduate level in the area that I have always been most passionate about. Mathematics was my first intellectual love and my most recent area of study; this will help me to excel in your program in Applied Statistics at the UC XXXX.

Earning multiple degrees as an undergraduate student is something that I will in all likelihood repeat at the graduate level, earning multiple graduate degrees as well. All of my instincts and innermost feeling tell me that earning my first graduate degree in Applied Statistics at UC XXXX will point me in the right direction and open the doors to a future in which I will be able to make my finest contribution to both humanity and the scientific community. I want to go to graduate school in the area where I have the greatest ability; and I have awesome skill with numbers and their applications. I could not imagine being any happier in the future than I could be fully immersed in data analysis, statistical computing, and applied statistics. I have already taken several computer science classes and I am skilled at website design, both HTML and writing algorithm in java. I am currently learning Python.

I look forward to contributing to the diversity of your program at UC XXXX not just as a Chinese woman but also someone who has spent over 3 years working with art people, dealing with design problems. I completed more than 10 design projects varying in scale up to 1700 acres. For each project, I developed a unique strategy for a unique task and conditions. From site analysis to design, I have become adept at research and investigation. I see each of these projects that I completed as a little like a math problem which I learned how to solve and did so.

If I am accepted into your program, after earning my Master’s Degree, I intend to get extensive experience in the real world, working, thinking creatively, and achieving lofty goals in the area of data analytics and in this way reach my fullest potential as a professional and human being who seeks to contribute to our development as a global society. I see Applied Statistics as the best way to do that.

I thank you for consideration of my application to your very special Statistics Program at UC XXXX.

tag:statementsofpurpose.com,2017-09-11:/entries/1592274Master’s Global Business Journalism, Korean2017-09-11T03:55:00-04:002023-10-06T17:14:15-04:00

During my studies to date I have become increasingly interested in the vital subject of the potential of emerging economies, especially in East Asia, and the barriers that might prevent that potential from being fulfilled. I am convinced that the sharing of timely and accurate information and of educated opinion, as widely as possible, and the encouragement of debate and opinion-sharing will be among the most important means of ensuring a smooth and effective integration of emerging economies into the global market place. I see the program as a means to enable me to assist in this vital process.

My ultimate goal is to work in the public advisory field in Korea, and undertaking a public relations or a journalistic role to inform private investors/potential investors about notable movements in the economies of the East Asia region and their implications and so to assist them in making prudent financial decisions.

I am aware that the field of emerging economies and related communication on the subject is a complex area of study and work calling for specialist knowledge in several areas and uncommon skills among its practitioners. My resume will provide the reader with an assurance of my strong academic ability and potential, I have an impressive GPA in my current program of study. The program that I am currently pursuing is directly relevant to the program and the knowledge and skills acquired will I believe enable me to bring very useful and relevant perspectives and insights to the GBJ program. I have acquired analytical, technical and research skills that will provide a good basis for success. Courses that I have taken include ‘Research Tools and Technologies for Social Sciences’, ‘Research Methods’, and ‘Social Statistics’. I have familiarized myself with the use Excel, Stata and ArcGis together with various statistical tests. I was also entrusted with organizing FDI and ODA inflow statistics during my internship at the Hudson Institute which provided me with the opportunity to extend my familiarity with the organization and interpretation of financial data.

My studies, research and work to date have been focused on public policy and social relations. I cannot claim a background in finance/business nor journalism except for some exposure in the field of student journalism. However I have undertaken substantial informal study in these areas and have familiarized myself with specific data on capital movements through research and internships on ODA and FDI. My background has also provided me with significant research experience and the skills and characteristics of a good researcher are directly transferable and will, I believe, enable me to assist in useful research in the program. I hope that it might be possible to develop my current research relating to the level of technological localization in China’s IT industry.

My senior honors thesis compares the relationship between development models in Chongqing and Shenzhen, and I plan to tweak and expand my current research on local Chinese IT enterprises and their internal structures. My academic background has also equipped me with an understanding of the ‘big picture’ of the global economic system as well as the interactions between different actors, the public, governments, NGO’s etc., which provides me with considerable relevant knowledge of the analytical processes involved in examining the ‘big picture’.

I am aware that accurate interpretation of data calls for intuitive, as well as purely technical skills. A computer can ‘read’ but as yet only a human can ‘read between the lines’ and possibly see potential connections in apparently unconnected pieces of data. I also understand that over-reliance on statistics that might be months old can be a problematic and that it is important to have one’s ‘ear to the ground’ to supplement official information; for instance a taxi-driver whose brother has a local haulage firm may be able to provide information that is more current than the latest official statistics and may contradict them on, say, the level and type of local production.

I believe that my language skills will be of particular use in this field of work and study. I am fluent in Korean, English and Chinese which are particularly relevant to my particular interest in the East Asia region. I have lived in New Zealand, China, Korea and the US and have consequently developed a very flexible approach to life. I have studied, worked and socialized with people from many ethnic and social backgrounds. I am a very curious person who greatly enjoys learning about other cultures and in sharing knowledge of my own. I am socially confident with a well-developed sense of humor.

The curriculum coincides closely with my own areas of interest and my career aims. I am also very impressed by the international make-up of a prestigious faculty and the success of its graduates. Of all the master’s programs that I have considered, your own appears to be a ‘perfect fit’ for my purposes.

I can assure the reader that I shall apply myself with great enthusiasm and diligence to the program, if successful, and will seek ultimately to ‘add luster’ to its already prestigious reputation.

Thank you for considering my application.

As a young man from China whose family is not well educated, formally speaking, I am the first member on either side to attend college. My mother finished only middle school and then entered the workforce to help support the family and my father achieved only a vocational education, never attending a real university. Life as I have known it has always been a great struggle to make ends meet economically—education has always been my compensation and reward. I also come from a family background that is built around hard work and perseverance. We were fortunate to have each other and the opportunity to learn. Most families in China only have one child, but my family had two, me and my younger brother. Our age difference of 11 years placed an early responsibility on my shoulders as I was forced to act as an additional parent and help guide him as he grew up. I taught him many things and continued to learn a lot about myself along the way. Most of all, I learned early on how to care for others both physically and emotionally; how far a helping hand really could go.

Also, I didn’t confine myself in my small hometown. Instead, diversity for me is something that I encountered and learned to appreciate when I grew and matured enormously, personally as well as professionally, especially during my six month exchange program in Hong Kong. This experience left me hungry for more international experience and I decided to apply for and was selected to a three-month research internship at the University of XXXX. I jumped at the opportunity to not only learn at another academic institution in an entirely new country and culture but also to perfect my English skills to an optimal level of performance. Soon after arriving in Canada, I became very much aware of the different teaching styles and I very much enjoyed the more liberal atmosphere since I found this openness to be more effective at stimulating the creative ideas of students. I especially enjoyed making friends from all over the world and swapping stories about physics, engineering, architecture, construction, etc.

I have struggled mightily throughout my entire life, always with great joy, to excel as a student and I have attempted at the same time to become a consummate intellectual with a global mentality. In this I have found my freedom and progress, opportunity and growth. Through community outreach and tutoring, I have also found great pleasure, giving back to those around me, contributing to causes that are close to my heart. I spent over 10 hours each week for two years tutoring peers and lower-level students in my undergraduate program. After spending two years’ work at peer-tutoring, I came to better appreciate the suggestion that ultimately one does not fully learn a subject matter until they teach it. This experience not only reinforced my understanding but cultivated my ability to articulate in the most fluent and concise fashion exactly what the student most needed to learn. I was also the co-founder of the physics club and sought to deliver cutting edge research to the community and non-physics-major students.

My formal education has always been accompanied by informal learning experiences as well as doing research and leading research projects, along the way as I have learned what is required to succeed at the next level of academia. I look forward to many decades to come of full time immersion into the interdisciplinary pursuit of creative ways in which the power of physics can be brought to bear on making the world a better place to live for all of us. As a world-class institution and exemplary in your historic commitment to fostering a diverse and welcoming community, your university stands out head and shoulder among the rest. I assure you that I shall always accept nothing less than to perform world class research that will make a difference for the next generations of physicists to come. I sincerely ask for your favorable consideration.

A young man who grew up in China, diversity for me is something that I encountered and learned to appreciate primarily as a result of my experiences studying abroad, first in Hong Kong and later in Canada. I savor every opportunity to experience greater levels of ethnic, national, and linguistic diversity in my life. As a result of its history, Hong Kong is an extremely diverse social agglomeration, ranging from those whose families have lived in Hong Kong for many generations, to Chinese Mainlanders, Taiwanese, Turks, American and British, the list is very long, especially when one includes the thousands of political refugees struggling to survive on the fringes of society, mostly from other Asian countries.

Throughout my six month stay at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, I made my studies my first priority. But, when I was not studying or in classes, I walked all over Hong Kong. The extreme density of the population facilitates frequent social engagement, sometimes even among total strangers. I enjoyed engaging in conversation on numerous occasions with people from all over the world, speakers of English as a foreign language like I am. English has been the vehicle of my diversity appreciation, opening the doors, making the interaction possible.

Diversity has been and continues very much to be a crucial factor in the great richness of my experience as a Research Intern at the University of Alberta where I have been serving since May of this year, 2015. Jumping at every opportunity, I learn from everyone with whom I come into contact, professors, guest speakers, academic colleagues, friends. Perhaps the most diverse population that I have encountered, however, are the homeless people. Many if not most of them seem lonely, and feeling lonely myself at times, a very long way from home, I take advantage of the opportunity to have some fellowship. I have been shocked and intrigued here in Canada even more so than I was in Hong Kong at the great variety of ways that English is spoken. I absorb it and imitate it; thus, I like to think that these last six months in Canada have not only radically improved my English, but have also helped me to learn to think in English, and to do so in global ways, inspired by the vast diversity of my social interactions.

My fascination with Statistics came with the early realization that the applications are almost limitless in that they have the potential to beneficially affect almost every area of people’s lives and with it came the deep desire to become an expert and teacher in this field of study and my application is made with that aim in mind.

I seek to equip myself with the additional skills and knowledge which the program will provide, along with post-graduation professional experience, to fulfil my ultimate ambition which is to obtain a teaching/research post. As a teacher, I will do my best to equip and inspire the next generation of statisticians to enable them make a real and beneficial difference in the world and also to acquire and to apply the ‘artistic’ skills of intuition and subtle interpretation to supplement the scientific models and techniques that they will employ. My special area of interest is in public health and biomedical research, particularly in the design and analysis of large and complex data, primarily in the context of epidemiological studies. I also aim to contribute to consulting and collaborative research in various other related fields in my future career.

Since beginning my studies, I have also become aware of the vital importance of statisticians maintaining independence and objectivity so that their skills are not used as a tool to ‘prove’ that what is untrue is ‘true’ or vice versa and that this ethical component is of great significance where there may be entrenched or even corrupt pressures for a pre-decided outcome. These considerations are perhaps particularly relevant in the medical applications that are of special interest to me.

I pursued a Master’s degree in Biostatistics at XXXU during which time I acquired and developed the various skills and knowledge and acquired the research experience that, I am confident, provide a firm basis for further studies and research at the highest level. I have a strong academic record in mathematics, statistics, calculus, probability theory and regression together with familiarity with statistics package programs such as SAS, STATA, SPSS and JMP as well as R software programs. In terms of my research experience, I had the good fortune to work at the XXXX Biology & Cell Signaling Laboratory at XXXU under the guidance of Dr. XXXX in my work in an ongoing study entitled ‘Aging Associated Cardiac Remodeling’.

I have also been fortunate in having been given the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of professional settings and have taken full advantage of them to apply theories in a variety of ‘real world’ situations and applications. I have been encouraged, mentored and taught by highly qualified and enthusiastic professionals.

Along with technical knowledge and skills, I have always sought to develop the ‘soft skills’ relevant to the profession, especially being someone who hopes to teach, lead and inspire students. I understand that a truly effective professional in this field must anyway be able to relate well to others to encourage cooperation, collaboration and the sharing of insight and opinion which is vital to it. Fortunately, I have the natural characteristics that help me to relate easily to others. I have happily studied, worked and socialized with people from many social and ethnic backgrounds. I am of Korean origin and I enjoy sharing knowledge of my culture and learning about others. In addition to Korean and English, I speak Mandarin which I studied formally at undergraduate level. I have also been exposed to various cultures in fairly wide travel in Asia and Europe.

I regard XXU as my academic ‘home’; I benefited enormously from the great breadth of experience and areas of expertise of a prestigious faculty and the constantly challenging but supportive atmosphere in the department. It is my aim to further the department’s and the university’s reputation for academic excellence. I am aware that the doctorate program will attract other very well qualified applicants but I genuinely believe that I can add significant value based upon a very successful academic career, research experience, wide work experience, intellectual curiosity and, perhaps most importantly, a genuine passion for this field of study and its development. I can assure the reader of highly enthusiastic, committed and diligent participation in the program, if selected.

Thank you for considering my application.

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Dr. XXXX and I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of my student XXXX who I see as an outstanding candidate for your PHD Program in Epidemiology. I am a physician from Japan and I came to the US in 1994 to study epidemiology as a basic science of disease prevention, obtaining the MPH and then PHD in Public Health in 1999. My research expertise is focused on the international epidemiology of coronary heart disease (CHD) and subclinical atherosclerosis as well as nutrition. I have been serving as an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of XXXX since 2001.

Not long after her arrival at our university, XXXX approached me and introduced herself as someone who is extremely dedicated to building a lifelong research focus in the area of cardiovascular epidemiology. Because of her great passion for our area of study and the fact that I serve as her Thesis Director, I have spoken with her at length on numerous occasions discussing developments and research opportunities in our field, and I find her to be extremely knowledgeable already about many fast-moving events.

This year, 2015, I have been helping XXXX with her Master’s investigating the potential determinants of arterial stiffness progression using 656 population based samples that serve as a basis for her conclusion that an accelerated increase of blood pressure and aortic calcification are positively associated with arterial stiffness progression as measured by brachial-ankle Pulse Wave Velocity (baPWV). I will publish this article as first author.”

It is because of her great passion for study and investigation, the relentless pursuit of unsolved mysteries that I think XXXX has become so highly developed early on in her critical thinking skills in support of the many enormous challenges that we face in cardiovascular epidemiology. I can assure you that she will bring to your PHD Program the very highest level of excellence and energy, inquisitiveness and indefatigable curiosity that will leave you delighted that she is on your research team.

A very independent thinker, XXXX brings a strident focus to bear with a tenacity that does not let go until the problem or issue is resolved. We communicate entirely in English despite the fact that we are both Asians. She is so fluent, as a writer as well as a speaker, that after we have spoken at length I am left with the impression that my own fluency in English has improved.

It would be an honor for me to provide any additional information as reference for XXXX’s application to your distinguished doctoral program in Public Health Epidemiology at UXX

Sincerely,

I ask for admission to study towards the MS Degree in Accountancy at XXXX University of Minnesota for the simple reason that after an exhaustive investigation of available online programs, I have come to the conclusion that your Master’s Program in Accountancy is the best of its kind in the world, with both the greatest depth and breadth available in your curriculum. I also very much appreciate what I see as your unequalled finesse and function of your online presentation. I now have the experience—in a variety of areas interrelated with accountancy--that will help to propel me to excellence in your program. Now 42, I came to the United States from my native Vietnam at the age of 17. Especially since graduating from college, I have acquired constant professional experience with increasing responsibility in a broad variety of business areas; and it is this diversity of interest and experience that I see as probably my greatest strength. My core experience is in accounting and my greatest talents lie in the areas of everything that is related to bookkeeping.

There is one great weakness to my application, my GPA. I ask for special exception in this regard because the D’s and F’s that destroyed my GPA were in my first year of studies, when I still had a limited grasp of English, given the fact that I only arrived in America from my native Vietnam at the tail end of my high school education, only the last 2 years. When I went to college, I was very much still struggling. But my grades consistently improved.

I feel strongly that I have developed greater and greater acumen over my years working in professional sectors of the business world and that I have great management potential, especially with respect to managing questions of diversity, harmony, and conflict resolution. I could not be more committed to the most rigorous of accountancy educations available and I assure you that I can and will make my Master’s studies my number one priority. Your program will teach me how to become a leader in my organization and a world-class financial communicator with the highest level of ethical consciousness and professional standards.

I have worked as a loan processor, a real estate appraiser trainee, and a premium auditor. To me change is a positive, not a negative and I think of it as professional growth, broadening my horizons, and strengthening my grasp of accounting through an exploration of related areas and real-world applications. I have sometimes wondered if the fact that my country of origin, Vietnam, which has historically been primarily a fishing society, has anything to do with the fact that I have found a corporate home where I feel very happy and appreciated: XXXX Shop, Inc. - we sell mostly fishing tackle. Prior to my arrival, finances were handled manually by the president of the company. He hired an accounting firm but he was hesitant to give up control. I had to follow his manual system for a while before he developed enough confidence to give me total control. When he finally did, I quickly moved to convert from an archaic manual system to a complete implementation of every aspect of Quickbooks. I also take on payroll and some tax filings, which helps reduce our expenses.

My boss is now free on the weekend to work on projects he is passionate about. He has more time to plan business strategy and work on private labels. We are growing rapidly. I have already made great contribution to the growth of our company and this pleases me greatly; thus, I have no plan to leave anytime soon, I simply want to continue to learn so that I can continue to contribute more and more to the profitability of our business organization. I thank you for considering my application to your rigorous and competitive program.

I see your most creative Certificate Program in Global Studies and International Relations at XXXX University’s College of Professional Studies as the best fit for me to begin graduate study, at my own pace, taking one class at a time, so that I might excel through intense focus on the subject as well as continue to work full time to support myself. My undergraduate studies were in Political Science and I am most interested in social justice issues and how they related to globalization, the politics of global hunger.

Born and raised mostly in the USA, I still remember childhood years spent in Mexico with my immigrant Mexican parents. Unfortunately, I lost some of my ability in Spanish over the years, and never learned to write the language. My background in Spanish did, however, greatly facilitate my learning of French because they are in the same family of languages. Thus, still 27 years old, I am off to a great start in the two languages that I need in addition to English to devote myself to a lifetime of fighting hunger in the Developing World: French for the parts of Africa that my English does not cover and Spanish for Latin America.

Born and raised on the South Side of San Antonio where the poor people are concentrated, I have known hunger and I know first-hand how it is related to academic achievement and community involvement. It was only through a great deal of hard work and good luck with a lot of perseverance that I found myself accepted to study at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Each day I spent two hours on bus route 43 to attend classes. I studied, and I watched the scenery very carefully, studying the social stratification around me. Your online program at XXXX will prepare me to excel further along in graduate study as I begin to think about earning the Master’s Degree, what to study. My thinking will mature as I complete your certificate program learning, analyzing, immersing myself in research, so as to develop the technical tools with which to treat my topic in the most rigorous manner.

I would like to see education treated as a greater priority in our society and both access and quality improved. Higher education has provided me with a fighting chance in life to achieve the intellectual and academic preparation of my dreams. Now, if accepted to your distinguished program at XXXX, I will be travelling far beyond what I observed on route 43 and will learn how to see in new ways, in light of new models that help us to understand the global unbalances and inequities that exist and what can be done to level the global playing field with respect to social and economic opportunities. Raised by my grandmother even more than my mother, I know a great deal about female-managed, single-parent families and their special needs, particularly for little boys with absent fathers.

To work my way through college at UX, I got a job at Gold’s Gym as a housekeeper. Soon, I was promoted from Housekeeping to Front Desk Associate and then from Front Desk Associate to Fitness Consultant. Next, I was relocated to our busiest location in San Antonio where I currently lead in overall membership sales and personal training packages. I help people live healthier and more active lifestyles. I enjoy my work and in fitness and health and I like the idea of continuing in this area for several years to come as I continue to advance in my graduate studies.

While studying at UX, I took a sociology course entitled “Poverty,” exploring it first as a concept and then as a real-world economic struggle, mechanisms, history, structures of exploitation, waste, and injustice. During that class and since then, I have developed a personal interest and passion for the area of food insecurity and its health consequence. This is why I am currently taking an online class entitled “The Challenges of Global Poverty” taught by Professors Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, authors of the book Poor Economics.

I want to devote my life to the cause of putting an end to food insecurity in my lifetime, at the same time that I also study and investigate in the areas of nutrition and public health, the politics and colour of hunger, its geography, diversity, etc. I study disturbing things—genocide, corporate greed, defunding of social welfare nets. The United Nations would be my ideal professional destination and this is one of the reasons why I have invested a lot of effort in improving my French. Working for a world food program would be my ideal job. A fighter, I survived growing up on the south side of San Antonio because when I did not run fast I fought hard. This instilled in me a no-quit attitude and a great deal of tenacity to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional in the area of human rights, fighting for the most basic of liberties, including nutrition.

Prior to completing my Political Science Degree in August of 2014, I earned two Associates Degrees from Palo Alto College. A student leader at PAC, I travelled to Washington DC to work with several food banks. My grades suffered when I worked too many hours; otherwise, I did quite well, making the Dean and President’s lists. My greatest joys came from volunteering with the San Antonio Food Bank throughout high school and beyond, the American Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, organizing events as a student leader. Hispanic, homosexual, I embrace diversity and work well across frontiers. Now living on the upscale north side of San Antonio, I make enough money selling fitness to afford paying my tuition at XXXX University—at the same time that I continue prolonging lives here in San Antonio.

I thank you for considering my application.

Agriculture Economics at XXXX University is my first choice for graduate school because of the great strength of your program, especially in the area of crop science. It would be a special honor for me to have the opportunity to prove myself as a very hard worker and a highly capable student in your program, so that I might be accepted to study directly for the PHD Degree. I particularly admire the work of Dr. XXXX, studying supply and the interaction between systems of production on the one hand, and the environment and natural resources on the other. I admire K-State’s broad-based curriculum and your creative leadership in the area of agribusiness.

A young Indian man with six years of experience in the area of food processing, I am very dedicated to the study and production of food with special attention to the cost of production as well as the level and quality of nutrition that is provided by the product in question. I am especially interested in grains, which I see as the principal hope for progress in the future, particularly with respect to our fight against hunger in the developing world. I seek to continue to advance in my academic specialization in this area for the balance of my professional life, engaging in research concerning the economic aspects of agriculture production, especially as it relates to climate change and limited available natural resources.

I look forward to a lifetime of analysis of the economic issues related to agriculture and the environment, conducting surveys and collecting data, advising businesses, governments, and individuals on science based economic policy as it relates to agriculture. Dedicated to lifelong learning and still only 28 years old, I hope to spend another 70 years or so learning about agricultural production, land use, water, and environmental economics on a global scale. I particularly look forward to a full participation in the ongoing improvement of material technologies, helping to apply science, in a ‘systems’ mode, helping to improve planning and decision making by farmers, exploring the link between food supply and environmental degradation in a never ending search for sustainable farming methods and strategies.

I have lost a lot of sleep doing non-required reading on climate change and global harvest, because of the critical implications for food security, especially in the long term, water scarcity, livelihood, adaptation and economic policy, etc. In fact, I have now spent several years reading as much as possible about agricultural production, land and water policy, environmental economics and international development, hunger and poverty. This is the center of my world. Thus, I am most keen to immerse myself in research on the relations between poverty, agriculture production, and environmental degradation with special attention always paid to the question of how to steward our natural resources in sustainable ways.

Our land mass—especially the percentage under cultivation--is shrinking at the same time that our global population is growing rapidly, raising alarm bells for our future and heightening the urgency of advancement in the area of agricultural production. We face numerous global challenges in the future, especially diminished availability of water for agriculture as a result of climate change. The grim realities of climate change suggest a pending ecological imbalance that is most likely to result in chronic and widespread food shortages. Of course, there is no simple solution for these multi-faced problems and thus I look forward to being part of well-coordinated efforts from individuals and governments around the world to address these concerns proactively.

My father is a farmer and I spent my childhood on a farm. So, I have been involved for my entire life with the issues that concern me most. Because I am myself from a rural background, in India, I am in a position to excel at data collection as a result of my facility with communication—in Hindi, Punjabi, Bengala and English, the 4 most common languages of the region.

The agricultural sector represents 35% of India’s GNP thus playing an especially crucial role in the country’s development. Furthermore, India is one of the countries that is expected to suffer the most from the results of climate change in the future and, with its enormous and rapidly growing population, is especially vulnerable to widespread and devastating food shortages.

Thankfully, India is home to an extraordinary variety of climatic regions, ranging from tropical in the south to temperate and alpine in the Himalayan north, where elevated regions receive sustained winter snowfalls providing us with sources of hope in addition to reasons for concern.

I completed my BS in Engineering Degree in Food Processing and Technology in 2009 and have been working full time in the food processing industry since that time, employed by several different multinational interests and I have gotten especially good at data collection and analysis. I was among the top 5% of students in my undergraduate program at the University of Rajasthan, India. The curriculum included all the basic courses such as Cereal Chemistry, Cereal Processing and Preservation, Chemical Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Food Microbiology, Food Bio-chemistry and Nutrition, Food Packing etc. I acquired all of the most important skills for testing and experiments related to the curriculum in our University lab. To further strengthen my skills, I underwent a paid training program at the Center for Analysis Research and Training Laboratory, New Delhi (Certified by NABL-National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories), which helped me to further refine my testing and analytical skills.

I also completed various industrial training programs such as with Mount Shivalik Industries and Temptation Foods Ltd., during my semester breaks. I worked in these industries to learn processes like Beer Fermentation, Blanching and Individual Quick Freezing (IQF). I also worked with Perfetti Van Melle India Pvt. Ltd., Agro Tech Foods Ltd., and JMD Oils Pvt. Ltd., which are among the most professional large scale manufacturing organizations in India’s food industry. This provided me with hands-on experience in quality analysis and assurance as well as the operation and design of machines and equipment.

I look forward to several years of learning and sharing with my colleagues at XXXX, lengthy discussions about food security and climate change, learning from my peers from all over the world about challenges and opportunities in their countries of origin. The impact of climate change on agriculture will undoubtedly result in food security issues, at least in many parts of the world. We will meet this challenge as best we can through exhaustive studies of what types of crops can be grown in certain areas, issues of access to water for irrigation, amounts of solar radiation that affect plant growth, prevalence of pests, etc. I intend to collaborate extensively with if not work for the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) examining the vulnerability of agricultural production—by region and by crop—in the face of climate change, developing strategies to avert starvation in the future. I thank you for consideration of my application.
