I submit the following personal essay in support of my application to your Master’s in Health Administration Program at the University of XXXX. My career in medicine and public health began when I earned my MD at the XXXX Medical School in 2005. My undergraduate studies for the BA in Psychology at XXXX College were focused on Neuroscience; and this early passion for a career in health and sciences remains with me today. Completing your distinguished M.H.A. program at USF will enable me, particularly, to maximize my contribution to the care of our veterans who suffer from PTSD and TBI.
Since August of 2013 I have served as the co-founder and Director of XXXX Life Home Health in XXXX, Florida, managing all business and financial aspects of our health organization. I organize health fairs and develop quality of care policies and protocols as part of my day-to-day management. I also serve on the Board of Directors. I see your creative M.H.A. Program at UXX as offering precisely what I need the most, the opportunity to learn about a variety of financial management tools to ensure effective services in the area of home health care.
As a Health Science Specialist since August 2010, I engage in research at the XXXX Veterans Hospital, also located in XXXX, Florida. I interview veterans who have post-traumatic-stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). In particular, I closely examine the effects of using service dogs with PTSD and TBI patients as well as studying the challenges faced by our veterans’ caregivers. While my research-focused projects provide informative data, I wish to utilize my experiences in combination with a public health concentration. The M.H.A program will facilitate my journey.
Finally, I have taught Anatomy and Physiology as well as Biology at XXXX College from February of 2006 through June of 2007. From August of 2007 through June of 2008, I trained students in the subject of Anatomy and Physiology along with Nutrition and Biology at Daley College. Next, I taught Geriatric Biology at Chicago State University from January to June of 2008 and then returned to Daley College to teach General Biology (July 2008-2010). At XXXX Medical College I trained and tested medical students in clinical skills for physical diagnosis as well as completed informal rotations in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Family Practice from January through June of 2010. Overall, I feel the afore-mentioned professorial endeavors have forged a solid academic foundation that will help me to excel in the completion of the Core Requirements of your M.H.A. program.
In conclusion, I seek to balance my professional experiences as Director of XXXX and my duties as a Health Science Specialist at the VA in order to support our wounded veterans and their caregivers who struggle to navigate the home health and/or medical arenas. Completing the M.H.A. at UXX will enable and inspire me to maximize my level of productivity and the quality of service that I provide in the management of a continuously evolving health care system. I will help us to meet the needs of our wounded warriors, many of whom need lifetime care. Completing your program will support my goal of accepting increasing levels of responsibility for their care so that I will be in a position to make important improvements in coming years to the level and quality of support that we provide to those to whom we owe so much.
I thank you for your consideration of my application to your distinguished program at UXX.
