I spent 10 years as a Senior Engineer with the Kuwait National Petroleum Company. For the past 3 years, I have been with the Kuwait Capital Market Authority, doing strategic planning along with project and performance management. Thus, I am now convinced that my professional advancement and service to my society would be greatly enhanced by the opportunity to complete the PHD Degree in your distinguished program at XXXX University. It is of central importance to me that I earn my PHD in the UK because I see it as global center of great innovation. I admire the international nature of both your program and your academic community and very much look forward to contributing to the celebration of diversity not only as a Kuwaiti, but also as a woman. Few women rise to the top in the Middle East, being accepted to our program will enable me to be one of those fortunate few. I am convinced that this is most healthy and that women need to see more female role models in business in our part of the world.
I have always been successful academically, awarded scholar badges and merit certificates throughout my school and university education. I believe I have the intellectual ability to complete a PHD Degree and I feel that I have now established my high level of professional accomplishment, drive, motivation, and dedication to pursue my career advancement through the terminal degree in my field. Throughout my MBA program, I was always in the top 3% of my class. I can assure you that I will give my all to your program so that I will excel as well on the PHD level.
I attribute much of my academic success to my passion for Mathematics and science early on, which led me to choose electrical Engineering as my undergraduate major.
Following the completion of my high school with distinction, I was granted a full scholarship from the Kuwait Ministry of Education and I decided to study in the USA because I was seeking an internationally recognized academic platform where I would meet up with novel, worldwide perspectives.
Studying in the USA did wonders not only for my English, but I learned a great deal about globalization, development, management, technology and social life from many different perspectives among the rich and diverse ethnic tapestry of American life. When I returned to my home country, I saw everything with new eyes, at once critical as well as appreciative. I am convinced that the rigorous nature of your PHD Program in the areas of strategy and management at XXXX University will, in a similar way, put the finishing touches on the education of a Kuwaiti man who hopes to be on the frontlines of strategic innovation in management in an increasingly competitive, global marketplace.
I am willing to go the extra mile to get the most out of whatever experience or challenge in which I am immersed. A well organized and enthusiastic professional, my educational experiences abroad have helped me to become a holistic thinker with a global mindset, a world citizen who seeks harmony in all professional as well as personal concerns. Studying for both my undergraduate engineering degree and my MBA, I met some truly amazing people and learned a great deal about myself as well through extensive and prolonged exposure to new cultures, new ways of thinking in education, and novel forms of economic and human advancement and achievement.
I began as a maintenance engineer at KNPC and have worked my way up to management of operations and strategic planning, performance management, risk management, and business development. I have discovered within me a great thirst for knowledge and I am a quick learner who is accomplished at meeting deadlines. What I most enjoy is putting the full gambit of my analytical skills to work at strategic management challenges. In particular, I hope to distinguish myself in the future doing research and publishing in the area of strategy and entrepreneurship.
My mastery of personal and professional organization is evidenced in the way that I have been able, as a career woman, to successfully balance my advancing education and professional dedication with my family life, creating a healthy and satisfying balance. I have loved every minute of my work: especially the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge engineering projects. Nevertheless, while I enjoy handling complex equipment and processing the results, I no longer feel so fulfilled simply carrying out routine procedures under the direction of others. I want to become a decision-maker, part of the team that directs the course of the project. My senior colleagues have encouraged my ambition and feel that I have the potential for this. In 2005, I was given the Engineer of the Year Award in a contest among the 3 top refineries in Kuwait. I was also one of only three engineers to be selected from our engineering maintenance divisions to participate in strategic projects.
By pursuing a doctoral degree in strategy management, I will have accomplished my long-term goal and youthful dream of becoming a renowned expert in ‘management and publishing research’. Learning gives me a great deal of personal satisfaction and an intense sense of accomplishment. The more I learn, the more fulfilled I feel. Fortunately I also happen to come from a family that has firm beliefs in academia. Over the years, my parents and my husband have consistently encouraged me to advance my career education wise. I have also adopted my parents’ standards of how to conduct yourself in life, to be disciplined, persistent in your pursuits and above all to work hard at everything you do.
Completing your program will allow me to acquire the critical skills that I need in order to make the maximum professional contribution to my society. I will then be prepared for a lifetime of productive, creative research testing theories empirically. I see your program at XXXX to be the most stimulating and creative atmosphere possible that will empower and inspire me to new professional heights, preparing me to envision, design, and create viable, sustainable solutions for our communities.
I thank you for consideration of my application to your distinguished program.
