Your Guarantee The most important guarantee that you have that our service is 100% reliable, that we will be there for you to do all that we can to help you throughout the process, is the fact that we depend heavily on word-of-mouth recommendations to get additional clients. Many of our clients have been recommended to us by a friend or associate. People who are in the process of applying to graduate school, generally speaking, also have friends who are more or less at the same point in their career development, your colleagues, people who you are graduating with from your undergraduate program. If you are pleased with our service, then please recommend us to your friends! And please rest assured that we will work to the full extent of our ability to make your application as effective as possible and that we will be there for you throughout the process, to advise you and answer any questions that you might have concerning your application. Send us anything and everything that you think might be helpful!
Your Strategic Investment The Statement of Purpose is enormously important since it serves as a basis for admissions committees to choose between otherwise equally qualified applicants. Dr. Edinger works as a team with his clients to produce the most effective Statement of Purpose possible. Usually, if our clients have a resume, they send it to us. They also tell us why they want to study in that particular field. We are also happy to work with the rough draft of the Statement that the client has written along with the information that you provide in your Interview, using the information like building blocks, organizing and rewriting it to be as effective as possible. Again, we need at least a very rough couple of a couple of paragraphs that provide us with basic information. We can also interview you by email and the telephone to the extent to which it is necessary, asking you relevant questions. We have learned that it is generally best to tell the review committee straight up front why you want to go to their school in particular. Often, there is a combination of factors involved, the quality and the special focus of the program, as well as its location. Local area resources are sometimes very important. Many applicants, for example, are already well established in the area where they apply to go to school. You are competing against numerous other candidates; this is especially true with respect to financial aid. What you have to do, therefore, is convince the committee that for one reason or another you deserve the position more than other candidates. Include in your rough draft anything that you think will help to bolster your argument that you are someone with an exceptional moral/social character: professional experience, extracurricular activities, especially volunteer work, even hobbies. The other way to look at this is that the committee is searching for people that they would like to have in their department, pleasant, interesting people. We believe strongly that they also like people who are generally interested in the welfare of others. Graduate schools are very tied to numbers; your exam scores are the single most important factor, because they represent objective evidence of your qualifications. This is one of the reasons why it is a good idea, in most cases, to apply to more than one school, usually at least three, and schools with a varied range of selectiveness. Thus, if you do not get accepted at your first or second choice, at least you may get accepted somewhere. The committee has to choose between many students with more or less good scores and this is where the SOP comes in: it makes the final difference. When forced to choose between two well qualified applicants with very similar exam scores, the committee will choose the student that they think has the most creative ideas; because that student most deserves the opportunity. That is why your Statement is so important. A well-written Statement can also result in a large scholarship award or a teaching or research assistantship.
Statement of Purpose The Statement of Purpose is the single most important part of your application. While information on your past work is important, it is only relevant insofar as it helps the admissions committee to better understand and appreciate why you want to focus on the problems that currently interest you. The admissions committee is primarily concerned with learning about your current and future research interests and how they coincide, in other words, how the research that you have already done has prepared you for the research that you want to do in the future. A shorter Statement of Purpose that is clearly written is generally better than a longer one. A Statement longer than one to three pages of normal type and normal margin is generally considered less favorable than the recommended statement of shorter length. A successful personal statement is a literate, elegantly written essay in which the student highlights her strong preparation for her intended area of study, articulates her planned area of study and her goals after completing this study, and demonstrates her facility with current theory and practice in this area. In other words, why do you want to go to grad school? How have you prepared for graduate study thus far? What will you study when you are there? What theories and methods do you find most congenial in terms of your area of study? With whom do you want to study, and why? Name the scholars you've found most inspirational or influential. You've chosen the schools to which you're applying on that basis, anyway, haven't you? You must state your reasons for wanting to attend THAT particular graduate program.) And finally, what do you plan to do with this degree once you earn it?
Writing Sample In addition to a given university's application requirements, each department often has special or specific requirements, and this frequently includes a writing sample from all applicants to the M.A. and Ph.D. Programs. The admissions committees are looking for a Senior Paper, Honors or Master's Thesis, published paper, or comparable written work giving evidence of both writing ability and the capacity for research, analysis, and original thought at the graduate level, and demonstrating the ability to use theory in relation to evidence. Papers originally written in a language other than English must be submitted in English translation. Other things being equal, a short, effectively written sample is preferable to a longer sample. If you decide to submit a longer sample, you should indicate which 10-12 pages should be reviewed by the admissions committee. I would be happy to review and edit your writing sample as well as helping you with your SOP. The two should be carefully coordinated and this is one of the most important features of my service
Multiple Drafts to Different Schools At StatementsofPurpose.com, we work with many clients who are applying to more than one school. We have worked with clients who have applied to as many as 12 different graduate departments at the same time. Those applying to around 6 or 7 schools are much more common. The other magic number appears to be three schools. And, one has to deal with the fact that, the more schools that you apply to, the more one finds oneself stretching the truth a bit, telling each school, more or less, that this particular program is one's first choice, at least implying that this is the case. This part is very important and the wording here needs to be subtle. I suggest saying something like: "I am convinced that X department at Y University is the best match for the directions of my research interests and my very high level of motivation." I also recommend that you include one to three sentences detailing which professors you especially look forward to studying under. When you take into consideration the fact that we do each additional draft for as little as $40.00 each, and that we do a thoroughgoing search of the faculty and their research interests in that particular department, as well as the general resources of the university, especially research and conference centers, this represents a very sound investment in your future. No matter how many schools that you apply to, you MUST tailor each essay to each particular program. A general essay simply will not do. This is why our service of tailoring each draft to that particular department is of such critical importance.
All we need is a couple of paragraphs telling us who you are and why you want to go to graduate school. A resume is very helpful. I would also like to interview you by email after reviewing your material. Let's work together as a team to create a masterpiece!
Personal Statements of Purpose For Graduate, Medical, Law, and Business Schools and Residency Programs. Founded by Roberto Fostor Ph.D. School of Religion and Social Ethics The University of Southern California (1995)
We edit/enhance Personal Statements of Purpose for Undergraduate, Graduate, Medical, Law, and Business Schools, as well as Residency Programs.
Our service is especially useful for those clients who are applying to several schools since we research these programs on the client's behalf, on both university and department web sites, so as to tell the admissions committee why you are especially compatible with that particular program, and this is often the key to success. If you apply to 10 schools, for example, we can provide you with 9 additional drafts for as little as $40.00 each (for programs in the same discipline), each tailored to a specific program ($80.00 for re-wites for another discipline). This could be an especially important, strategic investment on your part. Please be sure to confirm the precise length limit for each of the schools to which you are applying, in either words or pages and also spacing. In some cases, we end up writing drafts of several different lengths, most frequently 500, 750, 1000, 1500 or 2000 words. The rapid (no rush charge) and extremely high quality of our service is an opportunity that we hope you will not only take advantage of, but also tell your friends and colleagues about our service. We depend on word of word-of-mouth recommendation for finding additional clients. About one quarter of our new clients have been recommended by a current or former client
We edit/write dozens of Personal Statements of Purpose each month and it is something that we have come to enjoy and take very seriously. And as you can see from a review of samples of our work, we are good at what we do. This is because Dr. Fostor and our team have spent many years investigating what makes a Personal Statement of Purpose most effective.
Space is very limited and competitive in many programs and some students are turned away for a weak essay alone. Your competition often uses professional help; do you want to be one of those turned away because their essay is better than yours?

It is best to seek professional help and no one is better at this than we are. They just charge more money. |
